Business Communications
People with good communication skills have an advantage in the workplace. This course focuses on speaking, listening and nonverbal communication. It provides students with the information and practice they need to communicate effectively in a variety of business settings.

Business Writing
Do you need to write business correspondence on a regular basis? This course teaches you the basics of writing business communication that achieves its purpose. From organizing ideas into clear paragraphs to using appropriate writing style to writing memos and reports, the skills you gain from this course will be invaluable to your business situation. Prerequisite: Successful completion of "English Skills 1" or "Basic English," or adequate competency as determined by the English Skills Diagnostics Test.

Effective Braille Reading
Increase your braille reading speed and comprehension by learning the techniques used by experts. A practical guide to enhancing your enjoyment of braille reading, this course also covers accuracy, flexibility and comfort. Prerequisite: The ability to read contracted braille with enough proficiency to study from a braille textbook.

Using Excel
Excel is a program of spreadsheets designed to organize numerical data, contact information, product inventory and more. This course will teach you how to properly utilize this multifunctional software effectively and prove yourself as a valuable addition to any business team.

Internet: Beyond the Basics
This course goes beyond Internet basics and provides the information and tools you need to safely use the Internet for everyday activities. You will identify the threats to your computer, as well as a variety of tools, techniques, and commonsense practices for keeping your computer safe. Discover how to use the Internet as a major tool for research and reference, travel planning and shopping.

Contracted Braille
Whether you're a parent of a schoolchild who is blind or you are working in the blindness field, your ability to read and emboss contracted braille will enhance your relationship with your child or client. The goal of this course is to enable you to visually read and emboss contracted braille.

For Family Education Students

Parenting Children with Multiple Disabilities
This course is designed for family members of children with visual impairment and one or more other disabilities. It offers ways to promote learning at home, in school and in the community and also explains how to take an active role in educational planning. Because disabilities vary in type and severity, some techniques will work better for some children than others. Therefore, the lessons encourage students to keep the unique needs of their own children in mind. As a special feature, this course presents three fictional young people with different combinations of multiple disabilities. Each lesson describes how Nikki, Lupita and Connor learn various concepts and skills.

Guide Dogs
Are you, or is someone you know, considering a guide dog? This story-based course explores essential aspects about becoming a guide dog user. Information about guide dogs and their training, the application process, the relationship between a guide dog user and a guide dog and daily life with a guide dog can help you or the person you know make a more confident decision.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma affects tens of millions of people worldwide but, despite its prevalence, many people lack accurate information about this disease. Therefore, the goal of this course is to provide glaucoma-related information to help the professional take a supportive role during his or her client's adjustment to life with glaucoma. The lessons describe the workings of the eye as well as the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. They also discuss the emotional impact of vision loss and ways to continue daily activities when such loss occurs. The material in this course is informational only and does not replace the advice of a medical specialist.

Diabetes: Toward Self-Management
This course enables the student to identify the factors necessary to successfully manage diabetes. It is based on recommendations of the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. The lessons offer information to supplement the guidance provided by healthcare professionals.
